About Our Group

The Name

AutoHotkeyTools is the name we publish under. It describes what happens here: raw keystrokes get hammered into something useful. The group behind the name is an informal, unincorporated circle of volunteers, not a company, and nobody draws a wage from it.

Why We Exist

The reason is simple: good documentation for a free scripting language should not depend on one person's spare weekend or on an advertising deal. We host the reference, keep the examples current, moderate what gets published and make sure the whole archive can be copied by anyone who wants a mirror.

Who Runs It

Day-to-day work is shared between a small rotating group of maintainers, each responsible for a slice of the site: the reference pages, the code samples, the build tooling and reader correspondence. Anyone who contributes steadily is invited into that rotation; nobody holds a permanent seat.

What We Promise

These commitments do not change with whoever happens to be maintaining the site this year.

Keep the material free, keep the source readable, and keep the door open. If a decision would make the project harder to fork or harder to leave, it is the wrong decision.

In practice that means:

How We Got Here

The project began as a handful of personal notes passed around a scripting community, grew into a shared wiki, and finally became a maintained archive once too many useful pages had gone missing from the open web. Every version of that archive has been rebuilt by readers who wanted the next person to have an easier time than they did.

Pitching In

Money is the least interesting way to help. Fixing a broken example, rewriting a confusing paragraph, reporting a page that no longer matches the current release, or answering a question in a public forum all move the project further than a donation does. If you would still like to cover hosting costs, get in touch first and we will tell you what is actually needed that month — we do not run a permanent collection tin.

Reaching Us

For a scripting problem, a public forum will nearly always get you a faster answer than we can. For anything about this site itself — a broken page, a licensing question, a correction — open an entry on the documentation issue tracker and one of the maintainers will pick it up.
